Agameya On: Phone Free Schools

More often than not people are faced with this ever prominent question: ‘Why don’t schools ban phones during the allotted hours that children are taught in.’ The lack of phone usage will allow kids to focus more diligently at the task at hand, mingle with their peers, and get to experience life as it truly is. I’m afraid that Generation ‘Z’ will live the remaining years of their lives stuck in a paradigm with technical undertones, not being able to ascertain the visceral value that nature has to offer outside the mechanically constructed screen. Living vicariously through their devices in this day and age is an understatement. The average screen time on adolescents’ phones is north of five hours a day. Lets not forget the potent attribute of attention residue that accompanies one of the many ills that technology reaps.

A myriad of parents are opposed to the banning of phones during school hours due to the need to constantly touch base with their offspring. Worrying lurks in the minds of adults, and rightfully so. However there should be a happy middle to be met. One can possibly phone in the school if they need to contact the child to inform them of a light arrival for pickup, or a spontaneous dentist appointment proceeding to school. But certainly the usage of phones during school hours possess marginal net negatives than the lack thereof. I implore all parents if not in school, then at home, to truncate and monitor the use of technology by their youngins.
